AFP-WI: Senator Baldwin Continues to Put Partisanship Ahead of Wisconsinites as Shutdown Drags into Longest in History
MADISON, WI — As the government shutdown becomes the longest in American history, Americans for Prosperity–Wisconsin (AFP-WI) is calling out Senator Tammy Baldwin for continuing to put partisan politics ahead of Wisconsin families and workers.
Despite multiple opportunities to support legislation that would reopen the government and ensure pay for essential federal workers, including members of the military, border patrol, and TSA, Baldwin and Senate Democrats have now voted 14 consecutive times against a clean resolution passed by the House and supported by Senate Republicans to end the shutdown.
AFP-WI Legislative Director Jerry Ponio issued the following statement:
“Senator Ron Johnson continues to demonstrate the leadership and responsibility Wisconsin deserves, standing up for the public servants who show up every day even as Washington grinds to a halt.
“Meanwhile, Senator Tammy Baldwin chose to break a record no one should be proud to break, voting 14 times to prolong this shutdown instead of supporting bipartisan efforts to reopen the government and pay essential workers. Senator Baldwin and her allies could end it today by supporting the clean funding bill already on the table.
“Wisconsin families are not leverage, and they deserve leaders who will put their needs ahead of partisan games.”
