AFP-WI Urges Voters to Support Amendment Limiting Governor’s Partial Veto Power
Madison, WI — Americans for Prosperity–Wisconsin (AFPWI) urged voters to support Senate Joint Resolution 116 (SJR 116) on the upcoming November ballot, a constitutional amendment that would prevent any governor from using the partial veto to create or increase taxes.
The Legislature passed the amended resolution Tuesday, sending it to voters for final approval after Governor Tony Evers used the partial veto to impose a property tax increase for the next 400 years.
AFPWI Legislative Director Jerry Ponio released the following statement:
“SJR 116 restores accountability after Governor Evers abused the partial veto to create an unpopular 400-year property tax increase during an affordability crisis. We thank the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly for passing this amendment, giving voters the chance to ensure this kind of executive overreach never happens again.
“Wisconsin needs leaders who will take the state’s issues seriously. While the amendment won’t repeal the 400-year tax, Wisconsinites can begin to undo the damage in November by supporting SJR 116 and the candidate for governor who’s promised to repeal the tax; Tom Tiffany.”
