ICYMI: AFP-WI State Director Defends Education Freedom in New Op-Ed as National School Choice Week Kicks Off

Madison, WI Americans for Prosperity–Wisconsin (AFP-WI) State Director Megan Novak published an op-ed piece in DrydenWire on Monday defending Wisconsin’s historic school choice program. The piece ran to mark the start of National School Choice Week to highlight the difference the state’s program has made for thousands of students while urging Wisconsinites to preserve education freedom, which remains one of AFP-WI’s top priorities amid threats to school choice in the legislature.

“This month alone, we’ve heard from two state lawmakers that they would fight to take away school choice opportunities for students and their families, following the previous pattern of Democrat-filed legislation in Madison,” Novak wrote.

Some of the proposals in question include efforts to take away school vouchers, capping the number of students able to participate in choice programs, and more regulations on school choice programs in general.

If these misguided efforts expanded to include charter, open enrollment and home school, it could be well over 100,000 students whose freedom is stripped away. Not only are these students achieving higher scores in reading and math, but a student is at their best when parents have the freedom to decide what is in the best interest of their child.”
