AFP-Wisconsin Applauds APRN Reform Bill Finally Becoming Law, Celebrates Victory for Health Care Access
MADISON, WI — Americans for Prosperity–Wisconsin (AFP-WI) today applauded the signing of Assembly Bill 257 / Senate Bill 258, legislation that expands health care access across the state by modernizing regulations for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).
This reform, despite being vetoed twice in the past, will now empower nurse practitioners, patients, and families by allowing APRNs to practice to the full extent of their training and education. It is about time these common-sense changes were signed into law.
AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak issued the following statement:
“This is a major victory for Wisconsin families. For too long, outdated regulations have prevented highly trained APRNs from providing the care they are qualified to deliver. Giving APRNs more freedom to practice means more access, less red tape, and better health outcomes—especially in rural and underserved areas. We are grateful to the patients, providers, and community leaders who have pushed for this reform over multiple sessions to finally make it a reality.
“AFP-WI thanks bill authors Senators Testin and Cabral-Guevara and Representative Kurtz for not giving up on this crucial reform, despite multiple unnecessary vetoes from Governor Evers in the past.”
AFP-WI remains committed to supporting policies that expand access to care, reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers, and put patients, not bureaucracy, at the center of health care.
